Searching for WordPress Plugins

One of the most annoying things about the [Wordpress Plugin Directory][1] is being able to find what you are looking for by searching. The search has never turned up anything useful. Or it might, but it is buried in the noise.

I’ve been looking for a while for a plugin that will do a better job of allowing contributors to upload files to the site and make sure they get where they are meant to be (without cluttering a database or have thumbnails created). Perhaps a plugin named “Better Uploads” or “Upload Manager” or something like that. So I searched for “[upload][2]” and got back almost 2000 results. Over half of the plugins in the entire directory, because nearly everyone uses the term “upload” in their description. Utterly useless.

Yes, I realize that it is a free project and if I was something better I should just do it myself. I’ve just gotten to used to search “just working”. And I feel like a curmudgeon.
